Minutes from the Tuesday April 8, 2025 Personnel and Policy Committee Meeting
Present- Mayor Carol Bourgeois Jr., Susan Colden City Clerk, Alderwoman Simmons, Alderwoman Charlene Moore, and Finance Manager Christie Conner joined late. The Mayor called the meeting to order and led the prayer. There were no public comments. Alderwoman Simmons created a draft of an ordinance to add section A of RS 42:17.2.1. This statute allows a member of a public body who has a disability recognized by the ADA to be allowed to participate and vote in a meeting via electronic means as defined in R.S. 42:17:2. Alderwoman Simmons said she the sent a draft of the ordinance to attorney Pecantte and Tuesday morning the attorney advised Alderwoman Simmons to hold the ordinance in light of Governor Landry’s Executive Order concerning DEI and this order even extend. There was a discussion in general on our policies with the Mayor saying that some of our policies are outdated and some topics the ordinances are silent. Alderwoman Simmons said she feels that changing ordinances can be tough for people. She has proposed changes to policies such as vicious dogs, mobile food, and found little support for changes. Alderwoman Simmons also stated that probably in 60% of our ordinances the law that it is supporting has changed. The Mayor said we owe our community the tranquility and quality of life. Alderwoman Simmons is looking for Chief Moore to review the ordinances that affect his department. The Mayor expressed his support for Chief Moore. With no other items to discuss adjourned the meeting.
